Okay, the day started off bright and early. And warm. We all met at the zoo a little after 10:00 am…. Laura, Robert, Fabiana, Norman, Alan P, Audi, Kathryn, Brooks, Griffie, David, Riker Bear and me…. After a quick stop in the gift shop-Robert got a fan with a  water gun (so the water is blown out at the person the fan is facing) and he enjoyed spraying himself and some of us with it. I must admit that I got hot enough that I egged him on to spray me…. and I never regretted it!

We started off watching the elephant demonstration with Dolly (Mimi had the day off), and that was cool. Then we went to the Wildlife show, and that was fun, too. I think my favorite of all of them was the little porcipine. She was so cute, and smart…. she even backed down a little stump on an improvised ladder. So, then it was on to see monkey island and a little more. Then we ate (David and I tried an indian taco, I saw a lot of our gang with burgers, hotdogs and pizza) and then Audi, Laura, Robert, Riker Bear and I rode the (no joke here) Pioneer Train. It only took about 5 minutes to ride, but about 20 to stand in line. The rest of the gang hung out in the shade waiting for us.

After the train ride, we checked out the new exhibit, I can’t remember the name of the exhibit and the map telling about it is downstairs and I’m really tired and too lazy, frankly to go get it right now, so…… anyway, we visited this new exhibit that had a bunch of parakeets (the name of the exhibit is a play on the name, I believe) and we got to feed them nector and try to avoid them pottying on us at the same time. David got tons of pictures of this, and we all had a really fun time. If you go to the zoo, you need to check this one out. Pay the buck for the nector cup, but keep in mind that the dratted things try to take the little paper cup from you, and they can be insistent. Don’t stand directly underneath them, either, or you’ll see what I mean earlier in the paragraph.

Then we went through the primate village, told a lot of bad puns (one of them made me shoot water through my nose) and watched Robert and Riker Bear play the bongos. They were pretty good, although Riker Bear is more of a silent partner. We started back towards the gate, checking out this place or that on the way, including Predator Ridge. Then it was back to the giftshop. Somewhere along the line, Robert lost his little spray fan gun, and Laura was trying to replace it. I loved the idea myself, and got David a blue one (I didn’t consult him on this one) and me a pick one. I also got a black panther (he won’t eat much) and a Denver zoo hat for Riker Bear. (I didn’t want him complaining to the other bears that his mom never buys him anything.)

Then it was off to Dinner at Applebee’s. A quick dinner, right? Fabiana orders JUST dessert, some death by chocolate thing (it wouldn’t have killed her, perhaps, but she could have gotten killed by one of us just smelling all the sugar. Yum. She didn’t even let me lick the spoon…. I guess I’ll stick with my healthy salad….

So, three hours later, we left the restaurant after having shared lots of fun conversation about, oh everything….. and then Fabiana, Norman and Alan said they were going to Borders. Dang it…… A bookstore… at least I can’t increase my blood sugar in a book store, right? Anyway, “We’ll meet you there!” and we did. We got some really cool stuff, some of which we will talk about in our book/media discussion, I’m sure. Kari has been talking about this series by Eric Flint, that begins with ‘1632′ about a town that is ripped from present day and sent back to, you guessed it, the year 1632. There is a sequel, yep, 1633, and probably a few more. Between us, we got a couple of them, they were on sale for $3.99 as a special promotion.

So, then it looked liek we were heading home. I thought I would get this down before I slept and lost a lot of it in my dreams.

I’m heading to Orlando for 4 days, so I’ll be out of pocket. Yes, you should feel sorry for me, It’s for work, and not fun, but most of all, it’s June in Florida. Yeah….

We’re not going to the Ren Faire outing next weekend, so we’ll see everyone at the book/media discussion on the 27th, and then again for the movie day on the 1st, and BBQ on the 2nd.

I’m off to bed…. Goodnight, John-Boy.
