Well, we all survived our trip, but we did have an injury…. David R was attacked by the sting rays–all intent on getting fed! The wound wasn’t too bad, though, and he should be back on duty soon!

We started off our day yesterday with our meeting, and we were very pleased to welcome a few new members–Judy, Ed, Fabiana, Norman and Alan all joined since our last meeting-all from the convention, and we’re all very excited to have them! As you know, each time someone comes or goes to the group, it changes our dynamic, and we are able to revel in the new energy that new members bring to the table.

So, a little sidebar….. what happened at this convention that would reward us with such a wonderful recruiting payout? Did changing up our environment–not doing a table this time, but adding two new events, poker and the craft panel-do it for us? Because we weren’t workiing the table, did the extra energy and enthuseasm allow us to connect easier? Another key was that Starfest invited us to have a flyer in the membership bags this year. Ed couldn’t find us at the convention, but had enough information that he found us afterwards. We’ll have to revisit this.

After the meeting, we went to Beau Jo’s Pizza for lunch. Prices at the aquarium went down after 6, so that was our goal. The food was good–lots of carbs, but I tried a low carb option–called a skillet pizza, and that was interesting. They also had pasta, sandwiches, a nice little salad bar, and of course…. pizza. We brought home leftovers.

Anyway, thanks to Laura for arranging this event, some of us went when it was Ocean Journey, but that was a long time ago. We got to enjoy looking at lots of fish, turtles, snakes, sharks and even a tiger. We saw a flash flood and then got to feed the sting rays. Having fed some at sea world in Orlando, I think these little ones here were much more aggressive. (Hence David R’s injury.) We went to the gift shop (I had to buy shotglasses, an oceanopoly game and some ty babies–there should be a 12 step program–) and then we hung out in the bar. 13 of us went!! plus Griffie and Riker Bear. As we sat next to a huge aquarium in the bar, we watched a fish that just continued to swim in a loop….. for more than an hour. Why would it do that? It really makes a person wonder how another being (person, animal, fish) thinks/works. A couple people ordered desserts, and in the end, 6 of us hit VI for a late night snack.

It was a good day.
