We have a table in the fanclub room, co-sponsor the Federation Ball with the Omega Glory, have a panel with shipbuilding out of ordinary household goods, and some of our members work as volunteers/staff for the con, such as in the con-suite, registration and the model show. Stop by and see us!!
There have been several couples who have met through the club, but we would not encourage someone to join simply to find a significant other. You will make new friends in the club, and while you might meet a special someone, it isn’t the reason to join. On the other hand, we have had at least one wedding per year (and as many as three a year) since 1999 in our circle.
Yes, we do! We see lots of other groups during other events in the year, and invite each other to a lot of our parties and fun events, and they do the same. Sometimes these events are adult oriented, but often they are just fun family events or outings like rocket derbies, challenges, films and fun.
We don’t use Robert’s Rules at our meetings, and we’re quite casual and laid-back. No one salutes anyone else, and those who want to participate are certainly encouraged to do so. We are not paramilitary, and for most events, we have good clean family fun. Occasionally, we will have alcohol at a party (although not at our upcoming family event day after-con party in May), and children are not encouraged at these functions. If you’re wanting a nice casual atmosphere, this might be the group for you. We’re usually democratic to a fault, but we enjoy each other.
There are lots of open positions in the club, and someone is always looking for help on a project or committee. However, if you have a special talent or skill that you would like to share with the club, you can most likely create a position out of that talent or skill.
