Starfest:: The Federation Ball
We'll be doing the ball in the atrium this year since Starfest has moved a gaming con into the area we usually have. There are several concerns that we have, including:

What is the sound like in that Atrium? Robert and Marty are going to check that out.

Will we have issues with the ball going until midnight?

How will it work with the space? Will most people elect not to pay to come inside the walled area?

There is supposed to be a car or two in the walled in area, and we think that will take away from the space we have.

What are other concerns that people have?

I am not sure we will make our costs with this arrangement.

I also liked that it wasn't a 're-imagining' but a re-launch with the original series as a back story. Good to see the Hoff as well even briefly.

I heard it had poor reviews but great ratings. I would watch it and give it a try if they made it a series. But then they would run a few episodes and kill it off in a cliffhanger as all good shows.

Sorry about that one just hear that the killed Las Vegas and you got it a cliffhanger episode. At least have the decency to finish in the DVD set.

I'm really enjoying this show but then I loved the movies so it is logical. Plenty of twists and turns and I just read a review:

that had some interesting thoughts on it.

I guess I don't really look that deep into the show most of the time, I just want to like the characters and enjoy the show. I did have a few moments where it was 'why?' but the answer inevitably is 'for the action'.

This upcoming week is the 'Two Hour Season Finale' which hopefully isn't the 'Series Finale'. So make sure you set the correct time and if you are at all interested in seeing this show continue tune in. Even if you aren't tune in anyway cuz there is enough on TV already.

Event Reports:: USS Pioneer Monthly meeting-February 2008
Hey, guys, for those of you who either missed the last Pioneer meeting (or was there, but slept through it), here are some notes from that meeting. We're going to try and takes notes each month and post the details on the website.

For the first month, we'll put the notes on the email list and the website. Beginning next month, we'll put out a message that the that month's information is out on the website.

At the February meeting, we decided that we'd add this new step to help people know what they missed. Does this sound helpful? Give us your comments about this. Thanks to Kari for volunteering to take the notes, and I agreed to writer them up and post them.

Don't forget to get your rooms at the Marriott for Starfest, which is April 18-20. Rooms are going fast. Other Starfest news, we've found that TPTB have decided to move the ball to the atrium. Debby will work with the Starfest staff to try and work out options, if any. We need to finalize the panels and ideas were discussed. We also talked about giving out balloons to kids at the con, especially in our panels. Need to check on poker as well. We will need volunteers to man the panels.

Region 17 is interested in having the summit at Starfest. We agreed that we could participate in a group meeting/awards ceremony and the best time seemed to be 9 am on Saturday. We suggested that to the interim RC, Jenn Scott.

Fundraising was also discussed, and we may do 50/50 raffles at the meetings and we'll try to come up with more options by the next meeting. David H. is putting together a DVD of the recent launch including the press conference and replays of the launch. They will be $5.00 each, and the entire funds collected will go to the Pioneer fundraising project. David is volunteering the cost. If you would like to purchase one of these, please contact David H.

Other fundraising was having movie night, with donations for snacks, and anything left over will be donated to the club. Also, having a party with people cooking the food, and everyone paying a set fee--same thing, the money collected will go to the club to help with con expenses, etc.

We talked about goals, and each department will try to come up with their goals, then the chapter will finalize chapter goals. Several people are interested in costuming, and we will ask Kathleen to give us a class in costuming, and also check and see if she would be interested in making costumes for people for pay.

We discussed trying to streamline the meeting start times and progression so that we might have some time at the end of the meetings to play games and socialize. Please be at the meetings by noon for the department meetings, and we will start the regular meetings promptly at twelve-thirty.

Audi gave us the amount of the OCP, which is listed in the newsletter. She also asked if people were interested in going camping (local) this year, which several people said yes to. She has done research on charities, and hasn't been about to get ahold of the Food Bank of Colorado, but no one has returned her calls. She will pursue the Colorado Share program, and see if they need a team of volunteers once a quarter or so.

The med-com team will also begin to do features on members of the club (like we used to do) for the newsletter. Kathryn will start this project. She will also collect information on our fallen furry friends, and Kari will create a web page off the current pet corp page for this project.

Audi learned some information on how to determine if you (or someone else) is having a stroke. Have the person smile, if their smile is really lopsided that is bad. Have them talk in whole sentences, if they make sense, that's good. Have them raise both of their hands over their heads, if they can do it, that's a good thing. Also, they should stick out their tongue.

Doug took the place of Nikki in the presentation of the birthday cards. He was amazing......

We discussed the RC election coming up, and Debby mentioned that Jenn had been nominated, and no one objected to us voting for her as RC. Debby also said that she was planning to help out and apply for VRC. Again, no negative comments about this action.

The Region Awards Program has just begun, and each chapter needs to have someone on the committee. The Pioneer's rep (it can't be a command staff member) will be Arty. These awards are for Starfleet members and the Pioneer in general.

Brooks announced the Opus Con dates, the ones in the newsletter are not correct (the website was just updated).

David H told the group about the Star Munchkin game he recently got. He, Arty and Debby played it at the Superbowl of Chili. We'd like to do more of this. He also updated people on the Gurps game plan that is being worked on. Hopefully a game can be scheduled for March.

Crush Season is here....... Who wants to go? We hope to plan an outing soon.

The Group talked a little about Kennedy Space Center, and David and Debby shared some of their experiences. Everyone agreed that they would love to go to Kennedy.

Kari plans to help people who are not familiar with the website during the modeling/craft event. If there is interest, we may do more of this.

Gary and the engineering team are starting on Fluffy right after Starfest. We hope to use Fluffy to help with recruiting at SF. David H brought in a new lego robot that he just got, and plans to work on at the modeling/craft event. Gary also joined a local singing group, and will let us know when his first concert is.

After the meeting, we went to Perkins and used a lot of coupons.

In May, we're adding an after con party to the agenda. Tentatively, we're hoping to schedule it for the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The plan is to cook a meal, like spaghetti or a taco bar, and everyone pay a certain amount of money. We have a lot to decide about this party.

Also in May, we're adding a date at the Chocolate festival at the Merchandise Mart. We're also exploring the possibility of going to see the Lippizan Stallions at the Broomfield events center. More to follow.

So what is it with the magic of the words 'I'm one of the Oceanic 6?' IN tonights episode, Sayid says the words, and the guys he says them to is suddenly upset and backs away with a horrified look on his face.

So far, we have Sayid, Hurley, Jack and Kate as the identified OCeanic 6. Rumor has it that Jin and Sun are the remaining ones.

And it looks like Sayid is a hitman? And the one guy in the visitors who can talk to the dead? This is getting quite complicated.

Love Sawyer and his chatting about blowing off Ben's toes, this little piggy......
